The Basics of Broad Spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD, and CBD isolate are terms referring to the type of cannabinoids (or naturally occurring chemicals) found in CBD products. Knowing the differences and unique characteristics between the three types of CBD products is important in helping you select CBD products that suit your needs.

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate products are just as the name suggests–CBD that is isolated from all other cannabinoids. During the hemp extraction process, all cannabinoids and additional plant compounds (oils, flavonoids, terpenes) are removed leaving the purest forms of CBD.

Full-spectrum

Full-spectrum CBD products undergo few processes leaving all the natural compounds found in the hemp plant (cannabinoids, flavonoids, oils, and terpenes) in the extract. This includes trace amounts of THC, which may potentially show up on drug tests. While the benefits of cannabinoids can be experienced individually, the effect of all the elements found in the plant working together in synergy enhances their therapeutic benefits, creating what’s referred to as the “entourage effect”.

Broad-spectrum

Broad-spectrum is sort of a middle ground between the other two spectrums. Similar to full-spectrum, broad-spectrum CBD preserves all of the natural compounds found in the hemp plant with the exception of one cannabinoid–THC. Even without THC, broad-spectrum products still create a beneficial entourage effect.

The Entourage Effect

As noted above, full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD products include a range of additional cannabinoids (CBG, CBN, CBC, CBDA, and other minor cannabinoids) that are found in the hemp plant. While individually beneficial, they are especially powerful when working together.

Due to the entourage effect, broad-spectrum and full-spectrum cannabinoid profile products are far more popular and often deemed more beneficial than isolate CBD products. Leaving the cannabinoids in CBD product formulas create superior products that are better processed by our bodies while overcoming the limitations of isolate CBD.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to your top CBD questions so you can choose the right Proper Hemp Co. product for you.

1. What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the chemical compounds found in the hemp plant. Ongoing research into CBD is showing that CBD and other cannabinoids can play a major role in supporting overall health and wellness.

2. What does CBD do?

CBD aids the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) which performs several different roles. However, its primary task is homeostasis. The ECS supports various biological tasks, including energy and balance, immune function, memory, metabolism, sleep, and the function of the autonomic nervous system. So far, studies have shown CBD may work naturally with the ECS to provide relief, help your body respond to inflammation, help you feel calmer, and more balanced.

3. Can CBD get you high?

No, CBD is not psychoactive and it will not get you high. THC is the chemical compound in hemp and cannabis that is psychoactive and can get you high. Our products are formulated without THC, we remove all THC content from our formulas.

4. Is CBD legal?

Yes! The 2018 Farm Bill made hemp legal in all 50 U.S. states, but with a few important stipulations. For CBD oil to be legal, it must be derived from hemp (not marijuana) grown by a licensed business and contain less than 0.3% THC.

5. Is CBD safe?

Generally speaking, yes, CBD is safe. However, as with any dietary supplement we recommend that you consult with your medical provider before using our products.

6. Will CBD show up on a drug test?

Proper Hemp Co.’s CBD products will not show up on a drug test. While many products in the CBD industry contain up to 0.3% THC in their products, we remove all THC from our formulas.

7. Are there different types of CBD?

CBD products fall into one of three categories: broad-spectrum, full-spectrum, and isolate. Broad Spectrum CBD products (like Proper Hemp Co.’s) contain all the properties found in the hemp plant except THC. Full-spectrum CBD products contain all properties found in the hemp plant including THC. Isolate CBD products are made with CBD only and none of the other compounds found in the hemp plant. The chemical compounds found in Hemp, known as cannabinoids, interact with each other and help your body absorb CBD better.

8. What’s the best method to use or take CBD?

Depends, want to soothe sore muscles, joints, ligaments, or even inflamed zits? Go with a topical like Proper’s CBD Infused Balm or our CBD Joint Cream. Now if you’re looking for help feeling balanced, calmer, or improving sleep, our supplements are the way to go.

9. What’s more effective, inhalation, or ingestion?

The bioavailability (how much your body can absorb) of inhaling CBD products is about 50%. This is the same absorption (or bioavailability) rate as Proper Hemp Co.’s softgels and topicals.
